About Us

Time and service have honored the name Garrity Funeral Home located in this scenic river valley of Southwest Wisconsin since 1946. We are licensed in Wisconsin and Iowa. Our firm has served all faiths in Southwest Wisconsin and Northeast Iowa reliably for three generations, and over 75 years. Robert Garrity started as a partner with Otteson and Garrity from 1946 to 1971. In 1972, Garrity took over as sole proprietor of the business and built its present location at 704 South Ohio Street. With Robert's death in March of 1997, Michael Garrity, Robert's son, has taken over the duties of funeral director and owner. A substantial addition and renovation of the funeral home was completed in 2001. In 2004 the firm sustained another loss with the death of Marion Garrity, Robert's wife and Michael's mother, who was an integral part of the daily operations. Michael has carried the tradition of Family Funeral Service forward, something Bob and Marion always hoped for their life's work. The Garrity Funeral Home is proud to introduce a new staff member at our firm, Ryan Garrity, Michael’s son. Ryan completed his undergraduate requirements and received his Bachelor of Science Degree from the University Of Minnesota School Of Mortuary Science in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is now serving our firm as a funeral director and is a welcome addition to our staff in serving Prairie du Chien and the surrounding communities. He is also involved in several community and charity events.

Our trademark phrase "A stranger is just a friend that we have yet to meet" is not only our slogan, but our mission statement. Our funeral home is a family owned and operated business. We are large enough to give our families the same service as the largest funeral homes around, yet we are small enough that each family gets the level of attention and care they deserve.
