Barbara Jean Huebsch, age 84, passed away Monday, June 6, 2016 at the Crossing Rivers Hospital after a brief illness. Barbara was born May 13, 1932 in Oakes, North Dakota, the daughter of E.W. (Gene) Lee and Janice Lee .. Barbara graduated from Oakes High School in 1950. She played the bugle and trumpet on the school drum and bugle corps. After college, she taught school in Red Wing, Minnesota, San Bernadino, California, and Prairie du Chien. Her family moved from Oakes to Prairie du Chien in 1955, when her father was transferred here to be the manager of Anthony’s Clothing Store. She enjoyed telling the story of how she met her husband, Fred, when she bought a car from him to drive to California. She was quite active in the community and served 12 years on the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. Last year she was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for serving 50 years on the Hospital Auxiliary Partners association as a volunteer. Part of that time she was President of that group. She also like to knit, do cross word puzzles, and play solitaire. She enjoyed playing bridge and spent over fifty years in a bridge club. Other things she enjoyed were boating on the Mississippi in the family wooden cruisers, and later in their pontoon, and attending Wisconsin and Iowa football and basketball games. Until recently she often attended Green Bay Packer football games. Travel was one of her enjoyments, and she was able to travel to many foreign countries with her husband. If you mentioned the word "travel", she was ready to go. She really enjoyed keeping busy and doing things. Just a month ago she was delighted to attend the wedding in Milwaukee of her granddaughter, Karri.
In recent years Barbara had Alzheimer's. With the love and understanding of her family
, and friends she was able to cope nicely with this. She would have celebrated her 58th wedding anniversary June 28 had she lived.
