James L. “Jim” Johnston age 82 of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 on his 82nd birthday.  He was born October 18, 1935 in Harpers Ferry, IA the son of Leo and Florence (Heim) Johnston.  Jim served in the US Air Force.  He married Rita Lippi on July 1, 1958 and to this union, eight children were born.  Together they farmed near Harpers Ferry.  Jim also worked as a fork lift operator for 3M Company for over 25 years.  He is survived by his children, Michael (Brenda) of Ferryville, WI, Eric of VanWert, OH, Kevin (Bonnie) of Olympia, WA, Lisa Valley of Prairie du Chien, Steven (Sheryl) of Cocoa, FL, Gregory (Teresa) of Cape Coral, FL, Shawn (Tonya) of Rochester, MN and Valerianne (Duane) Mullins of Prairie du Chien, his sisters, LaVonne (Don) Wegman of Manchester, IA and Judy (Carl) Czech of White Bear Lake, MN, 25 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

According to Jim’s wishes, a private family memorial service and interment will be held. Reverend James Weighner will officiate and military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made that will be distributed to some of Jim’s favorite charities.
