Lewis W. Marfilius age 83 of Prairie du Chien, WI passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Crossing Rivers Health Care Center in Prairie du Chien. He was born June 14, 1933 in Prairie du Chien the son of Clarence and Martha (McCarthy) Marfilius. He was a graduate of Prairie du Chien High School and later served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict. He married Fay Schierholz on November 14, 1957 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. She preceded him in death on July 3, 2004. Lewis farmed most of his life and was a US Postal Worker. He spent over 30 years as a volunteer for the Bridgeport Fire Department and served on several boards within the community including; the GC and F Co-Op which later became New Horizons and the Evergreen Cemetery. Lewis belonged to the Eagles Club Aerie 1502 and was a past member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing cribbage and cards at the Port and the Eagles club and was an avid Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badger fan. He is survived by his children, Cindy (Gary) Jelinek of Prairie du Chien, Deb Camardo of Mineral Point, WI, Scott Marfilius and Joan (Patrick) Ries both of Milton, WI and Bill (Cindy) Marfilius of Prairie du Chien, his grandchildren, Jennifer, Gina, Megan, Austin, Patrick and Bryce along with great grandchildren, Taylor, Dylan, Leah and Brady, his brother Lyle Marfilius of Prairie du Chien, in laws, Wanda (Bill) Check, Gerald (Barbara) Schierholz and Sandi Marfilius. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brothers, Donald, Kenneth and Richard Marfilius.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Monday, February 20, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be an Eagles Club Tribute at 6:00 PM and a wake scripture at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Lewis name to the Freedom Honor Flight, P.O. Box 505, LaCrosse, WI 54602.
