Reverend John C. "Fr. Jack" Kilburg

September 23, 1929 ~ November 6, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old


The Reverend Father John Charles “Father Jack” Kilburg, M.S.F., age 87 of Seguin, TX passed away on November 6. 2016. Fr. Jack was born on September 23, 1929, in Wauzeka, Wisconsin. He was the son of Alfred Peter Kilburg and Irene (Schmidt) Kilburg, both from Wauzeka, Wisconsin. Fr. Jack, as he liked to be called, entered into active duty with the United States Marine Corps November 6, 1951, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. While serving in the Marine Corps, Fr. Jack received various medals: the Korean Service Medal, with three stars, United Nations Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged from active service duty on November 4, 1953. Following his military service, and prior to entering the seminary, Fr. Jack received his certification in teaching CCD and worked in the Peace Corps in Brazil. After returning home, Fr. Jack entered the Missionaries of the Holy Family. He made his First Profession of Vows at Holy Family Seminary on August 8, 1975. Fr. Jack studied theology at Kenrick Theological Seminary in Saint Louis, Missouri, and was ordained at the Saint Louis Cathedral on May 26, 1979. In serving as a Priest with the Missionaries of the Holy Family, Fr. Jack served in various parishes throughout the United States and Mexico. Fr. Jack’s longest assignments were in Ocompo and Cuatro Cienigas, Mexico. He also served in Corpus Christi and Edinburg, Texas, as well as Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Granite City, Illinois. His last assignment was to Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish in Seguin, Texas. Fr. Jack is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Alan Kilburg, Sharon Kilburg, Carolyn Henry, Michael Kilburg, Richard Kilburg, and brother-in-law, Arnold Henry. Survivors include his sisters, Priscilla Kelley and husband Larry, Inez Paynter and friend Al Mollo, and Linda Crowley and husband Ken; sister-in-law, Florence Kilburg; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and many friends. Fr. Jack will be truly missed by his immediate family as well as his religious community, the Missionaries of the Holy Family. May he now rest in peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, November 14, 2016 at 11:30 AM at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Eastman, WI, Rev. Eugene Wolf officiating with burial in the church cemetery.  Military honors will be accorded graveside. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of service. Any memorial contributions in honor of Fr.
