Roger J. Pellock

December 18, 1934 ~ January 17, 2014 (age 79) 79 Years Old


A well known Prairie du Chien businessman, Roger J. Pellock age 79 passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born December 18, 1934 on the family farm in Eastman, WI, the son of Jack and Helen (DuCharme) Pellock.  He graduated from Seneca High School in 1953.  He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea as a Staff Sergeant following the Korean Conflict.   Shortly after he finished his tour of duty Roger returned to the area and met, then married, the love of his life, Mary Ellen Leard on August 3, 1957 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien.

In 1959 he became self employed as a painting contractor.  The business branched out to eventually become a general contractor and incorporated in 1963 as Pellock Construction, Inc.  Roger built many fine custom homes and local businesses throughout the years.  Roger retired in 2000 handing the business down to family.  In his retirement continued to use his skills as a master carpenter by building furniture and custom woodwork of all kinds. He especially loved steam bending wood to make tables and chairs.  Roger genuinely loved people and cared deeply about family, friends, employees and customers. 

 He is survived by his wife of 56 years Mary Ellen Pellock of Prairie du Chien, his sons, Steve (Amy) of Prairie du Chien, Scott (Kelly) of Plainfield, IL and Douglas (Colleen) of Seattle, WA, his daughters, Deanne (Alan) Hromadka of Prairie du Chien and Sandy (Todd) Peters of Appleton, WI, his brothers, Larry of Prairie du Chien, John of Beloit, WI and Dennis (Cathy) of Eastman, his sisters, Karen O’Meara of Elkader, IA and Rhona (Sylvan) Quinn of Ft. Atkinson, WI, 20 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Diane Matzat.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.  Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.  Friends may call on Monday, January 20, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a wake scripture at 7:30 PM.   In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Prairie du Chien Veteran’s Memorial, The Holy Family Parish Building Campaign, Prairie Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
