Wesley “Wes” Heiar age 91 of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.  He was born September 15, 1922 in Wauzeka, WI the son of Anthony and Carrie (Scheckel) Heiar.  He married his best friend, Violet McCarthy on October 17, 1944 at Sacred Heart Church in Wauzeka.  She preceded him in death on November 28, 2012.  Wes was an avid fisherman and hunter, a skilled carpenter, machinist and mechanic.  He owned and operated a service station in Luana, IA.  In 1946 he received his cheese maker license and later purchased the Carr Valley Cheese Factory.  In 1955 he purchased the Conley Cut Cheese Factory.  In 1968 he moved to Prairie du Chien and was employed by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department as a radio dispatcher, deputy and later served as Sergeant on the road until his retirement.  He is survived by his son Richard (Cindy) Heiar of Manhattan, KS, his daughter Jean (Steve) Anderson of Onalaska, WI, a daughter in law Gayle Heiar of Cross Plains, WI, five grandchildren, Brian, Erik and Kathleen Heiar, Amy and Kevin Anderson along with two great grandchildren Marissa and Gavin Burchell.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a son Jerry, two brothers, Donald and Robert, a sister Rita and a great grandson Mason.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 9, 2014 at 11:30 AM at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Donn Heiar and Rev. James Weighner concelebrating.  Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien.  Friends may call at the church on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 10:00 AM until the time of services.  The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
