Carrie D. (DuCharme) Breuer

Prairie du Chien, WI

Carrie D. Breuer age 108 of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018 at the Prairie Maison Care Center.  She was born June 27, 1910 in Prairie du Chien the daughter of Abbelen and Mary (Bertsch) DuCharme.  Carrie grew up on DuCharme Ridge in Eastman, and later moved to Prairie du Chien in 1945. She married Hubert Breuer on October 29, 1955 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. As a young woman, she worked for various people who needed help with small children. She also worked several years at Hormel Company in Austin, MN, at Schlitz Brewery in Milwaukee and at National Decorated Metals in Prairie du Chien, where she was employed for 10 years. Hubert was in the service for 20 years, and during part of the time he was gone, Carrie stayed with her parents. When Hubert returned they bought property in Lynxville and operated a small farm for 17 years, moving to Prairie in 1981. They had no children, but they had 75 nieces and nephews. Hubert preceded her in death on May 13, 1999.

“No smoking, eating lots of vegetables and getting out and playing in the dirt” were Carrie’s recommendations for a long and happy life.”

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Robert, Elmer, Roy and Irving DuCharme along with her sisters, Alta Gernert, Eleanor Flaherty and Edith Reichmann.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 29, 2018 at 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.  Friends may call on Sunday, October 28, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be a rosary at 4:00 PM and a wake scripture at 6:00 PM.  Friends may also call at the funeral home on Monday from 9:30 AM until the time of departure for the church.  www.garrityfuneralhome.com
