Janis,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss.  Terry and I were on vacation. I have many fond memories of Geisler's, and remember your father well.  I too lost my father this year.  Although I know he's in a better place, I still miss him.  You and your family are in our prayers.

My sincere sympathy to Don Sebastian's family.  As a Campion student, class of 1969, I recall Don's steady, easy presence during four years when I lived away from home.  He was always willing to talk with us but did not need to talk.  I am impressed, in retrospect, with how he treated every customer at Campion, whether a senior Jesuit or a lowly freshman, as though he were a paying customer.

Don was interesting.  Every winter since then I have recalled how Don would assess the frost and temperature to gauge whether the land was absorbing enough of the snow-melt to mitigate the Spring floods.

Campion students knew which teachers had served in World War II, but I do not think we knew of Don's heroic service for our country.  That information would have been shared.  That Don did not put this part of his story around seems entirely consistent with his character, and I do not believe any of his former customers will be suprised to learn of it.

May he rest in peace, and may his memory be honored.

Dear Sebastian family,

I am one of the many thousands of Campion students who were Don's "customers" over the years. He always had a wry smile for us and was one of our few real contacts to the outside world during the long months we spent at school away from family and neighborhood friends. His own experience in the Air Force away from home during WWII probably made him sympathetic to our situation.

The prayers of many are with him and you all.

Dear Sebastian Family,

It is with fondness that I as a former student at Campion High School remember Don. All of us many times a year "visited" Don under orders from one of the priest who deemed our hair too long.  Don always had a listening ear and was empathetic and kind.  All these memories are precious and Don is remembered by many.

Dear Connie, Randy & Janis,
We are so sorry to hear about your loss. Uncle Don was one of a kind! I will always remember him telling us that one Christmas about their midnight excursions on the Mississippi with Grandma during Prohibition! Caitlin still remembers him as her "crazy Great Uncle Don" when he pretended to steal her food at Grandma Sebastian's funeral.
He was truly a great uncle and godfather...I don't ever remembering him saying no to a sleep-over. Plus ,I will always have the name Catrina Catrofferson and Nancy will always be "Nancy Dan the garbage man!
It's been way too long since we've talked ... just hate that it had to take this to reach out to you. Love you all and you are in our thoughts and prayers!
