Dr. Irving M. Bush, age 84, of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, September 28, 2018 at the Prairie Maison Care Center. He was born January 19, 1934 in New York, NY, the son of Max and Mirra (Guttman) Bush. Dr. Bush was a graduate of New York University and later received his M.D. from the Chicago Medical School. He married Ronnie Beth Schwartz of Miami Beach, and later Jan Lanners.
Irving Bush was a good father. He taught his children the the importance of hard work, the value of study, the importance of both the sciences and the humanities, equal rights and respect for women, and resilience.
Dr. Bush was a pioneering researcher and scientist, a skilled surgeon, an esteemed teacher, and a caring physician. He was chair of the Department of Urology at Cook County Hospital, and was a professor at the Chicago Medical School, where he had been a student. At Cook County he taught generations of residents, and at the medical school, generations of students. Dr. Bush innovated in many important areas of urology including the use of fiberoptics and lasers in urologic surgery, the treatment of kidney stones and urinary tract infection, and the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Later in life he worked in private practice.
He is survived by his children, Dr. Alan Bush of Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Steven (Rebecca) Bush of Eastman, WI, Aaron (Doris) Bush and Karolynn Bush both of Elgin, IL, his grandchildren, Max, Stephanie, Eli, Jack, Ty, Luka,and Leo. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Dr. Ronnie Beth Bush.
