Mary E. (Groh) Kann

December 24, 1927 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Mary Evelyn Kann (Groh), age 90, went to be with Our Lord on Friday, January 5th, 2018, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home, where she had been a well-loved resident since 2015. Born Dec 24, 1927 the daughter of Elmer and Margaret (Brophy) Groh, she grew up in Rising Sun, Wisconsin. She attended Edgewood College in Madison before having to return home after the death of her mother, later running Finley's General Store for several years. She met Walter Kann of Glen Haven, Wisconsin and they were united in Marriage on January 17, 1959 at St. James Church, and built a life raising a family and working together on the family farm just outside of Glen Haven. Mary also had worked several years in Cassville, Wisconsin as both a waitress and machine operator in a local factory. They retired from the farm in 1982 and moved to Prairie du Chien, where Mary volunteered at St. John's Catholic Church by decorating the church alter for various holidays and leading the prayer chain. She also recycled greeting cards for shut-ins and worked at the local polls. She was a devoted wife, mother, friend to many and keeper of her Catholic faith. She was known for always giving, doing and being concerned for others, and having a great sense of humor. During the farm years, she enjoyed her garden and the canning and freezing that went along with it. But she always loved to play cards, bake pies, and entertain guests. She is survived by son Mark Kann of St. Louis, MO; daughters Nola Karim (Aziz) of Sedro-Woolley, WA and Linda Bull of Platteville, WI; Granddaughters Trista Reuter (Richie) of Hammond, WI, Chealsey Steffan (Matthew) of Platteville, and Jenna Karim of San Jose, California; grandson Shakil Karim of San Francisco; great-grandchildren Ryan, and Lucylle, Zoey and Ely; nephew Daniel Groh of Rising Sun. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter, parents Elmer and Margaret, brother and sister-in-law William and Lorraine Groh and son-in-law Charles Bull of Platteville. She will be missed by all that knew her.
