Mercedes A. Lang age 93 of Wauzeka passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Prairie Maison Care Center.  She was born February 10, 1924 in Colby, WI the daughter of Alphonse and Gertrude (Kaiser) Schmitt.  She married Leo Lang on June 23, 1943 in Winnetka, IL.  Together they farmed near Wauzeka and Mercedes later worked at the Prairie Convalescent Center and did some independent, in-home care.  She was an active member of Sacred Heart Church in Wauzeka and belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary. Leo Sr. preceded her in death on April 9, 1983.  She is survived by her sons, Leo (Georgia) Jr. of Spokane, WA, Gerald (Shirley) of Aurora, IL, Terry (Juanita) of Harpers Ferry, IA and Lester (JoAnn) of Monona, IA, her daughters, Jane (Dick Heitman) Lang of Waunakee, WI, Patricia Bell of Boscobel, WI, Mary (Bob) Heideman of Mineral Point, WI, Suzette (Jerry) ray of Wauzeka and Lisa (Bob) Shackett of Beloit, WI, her siblings, Germaine (Fritz) Redman of Athens, WI, Mark (Delores) Schmitt of Colby, Mary Ann (Ted) Scanlon of Illinois, Verjean Kunze of Abbotsford, WI, Linus (Joan) Schmitt of Wausau, WI and Tim (Suzy) Schmitt of Blenker, WI, 32 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter Rebecca, a son in law Greg Bell, two brothers and six sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 12:00 PM at the Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Anandan Rajan officiating with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery both in Wauzeka, WI.  Friends may call at the Sacred Heart Church Hall from 10:00 AM until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Sacred Heart Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
