Anne Elizabeth Mezera

Anne E. Mezera, age 86 of Prairie du Chien passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Garden View Place in Monona.  She was born July 26, 1936, the daughter of Anthony and Grace (Wall) Mezera.  Anne grew up on the family farm located on Irish Ridge Road and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Prairie du Chien.  Eventually she taught in a one room schoolhouse, until it closed, before going on to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where she was a member of The Newmen Club.  From there she obtained her bachelor’s degree in education and went on to teach elementary school in Rockford, IL.  Anne then moved back home to help care for her parents and further taught in the MFL Mar-Mac school district until her retirement.  She was involved in Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Homemakers, Card Club, and other organizations.  She enjoyed bowling, crafting, and tending to her garden.  Anne loved her family and was always there to look after all the generations of nieces and nephews and many others.  She is survived by her siblings Therese Hromadka of Patch Grove, WI and Phyllis Lee of Rockford, IL:  her god children Mary Recker, Monica Luff, Vicki Dudenbostel, and Dan Hromadka; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Margaret Arado, Aelred “Hop” Mezera, and Sylvester Mezera.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 23, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien.  Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Monday, May 22, 2023, from 4:30 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. with the Holy Rosary at 6:30 P.M.  Friends may also call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of departure for church.
