Bonnie JoAnne (Payne) Boland

Bonnie J. Boland, age 72 of Prairie du Chien passed away Monday, May 1, 2023, at the UW Health University Hospital in Madison, WI. She was born on January 27, 1951, the daughter of Milford "Jr" and Judith (Grimsled) Payne. She grew up on the family farm in Seneca, WI where she enjoyed helping with the daily chores. She liked to play softball growing up and was a talented pitcher. Bonnie married Bernard “Butch” Boland on February 24, 1968. She worked at B.A. Kennedy Elementary School in Prairie du Chien as a custodian and cook for many years. She always maintained her love for softball and baseball, becoming involved with the Cecil Smith Ball Park Committee in Prairie du Chien and traveling the area to watch her grandchildren play ball themselves. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, and thrifting. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Butch; their children Rhonda (Brian) Kazda; her daughter-in-law Marcie Boland; her siblings Dale (Rochelle), James (Darlene), and Richard Payne, Vicki Linder, and Deb (Lennie) Davidson; her sister-in-law Anne Payne; her grandchildren Bailey (Colton Caldwell) and Brenna (Adam Bergo) Boland, Brock (Maddie Carroll), Bryce (Cheyenne), Bridget (Nate Patzner), and Brynlee Kazda. Great grandchildren Payton, Kendra, Klayton, Everleigh Kazda, Caitlynn Patzner. Brother & sister in-laws. Michael (Jeanne), Tom (Mary Ann), Terry (Beth), Dennis (Robin), Tim (Barb), Jerry (Ruth) Boland. Marleen (Gary) Venner, Maureen (John) Neebeck, & Sister in-law Sue Boland. Many nieces & nephews. Bonnie will be especially missed by her beloved dog Teddy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Robert "Bob" Boland, her siblings Gary “Wig” Payne Sr. and Judy Fisher; and her brother & sister in-laws Bernie Linder, Richard, Danny, Mary, Colleen Boland & Ron & Susie Hogan.  

A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel in Prairie du Chien with private burial at a later date. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter in Prairie du Chien.
