Cecilia A. "Ceil" Benda

Cecilia A. “Ceil” Benda, age 95 of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, April 25, 2025, at Bluff Haven in Prairie du Chien. She was born in Prairie du Chien on April 5, 1930, to Vincent J. and Rose (Vavruska) Benda. Ceil worked locally as a telephone operator for 33 years, 12 of which were spent working in Dodgeville, WI until retirement. Ceil enjoyed playing the accordion for local nursing home residents in Prairie du Chien. She was an active member of St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish and often volunteered to sing in the church choir. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; 4 brothers Andrew, Vincent, Lawrence, and Wilfred Benda; and 7 sisters Bertha Anderson, Mary Benda, Alice Flom, Angela Benda, Teresa Heisig, Dorothy Schlitter, and Rose Rebholz.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Fr. Brandon Guenther officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
