Daniel Joseph Becwar Jr.

Daniel J. Becwar Jr., age 81 of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health surrounded by family. Dan was born in Prairie du Chien on September 30, 1942, to Daniel Sr. and Leona (Benish) Becwar. He spent his early years on the farm helping raise cattle and pigs. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School with the class of 1960. He then pursued his education at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked briefly in biomedical research at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, where he met his future wife, Kathy Miller. The two were married on July 22, 1967.  From there, he pursued his master’s degree in guidance counseling at Winona State University. He furthered his counseling career at St. Theresa’s College in Winona, Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI, and eventually Prairie du Chien High School, where he worked as their guidance counselor until retirement. Dan took pride in his ability to help those who needed guidance. His strong listening skills and his ability to provide solid advice impacted the lives of many people. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, and his door was always open. His family was his life, and he enjoyed supporting them in their many academic and athletic events. He was their biggest cheerleader. The farm was his escape, and he took pride in his cows, his cats, and his crops. Dan is survived by his wife of 56 years Kathleen; their children Tracey (Greg) Broadbent, Lori (Scott) Sitek, and Daniel III (Jennifer) Becwar; 1 sister Patricia Fishler; 7 grandchildren Shelly Morgan, Megan (Ryan) Rush, Emily (Adam) Blaser, Ava, Owen, and Laney Sitek, and Evan Becwar; 3 great-grandchildren Jayden, Charlotte, and Thomas; and 1 nephew Frank (Meg) Fishler. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Frank Fishler.  

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s
Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with inurnment in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations will go towards a scholarship in Dan’s name.
