David Arthur Nelson

David A. Nelson, age 81 of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born in Decorah, IA on February 26, 1942, the son of Nels and Florence (Kobriger) Nelson. David grew up in Decorah where he worked at the Coca-Cola Factory and graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1960. He later moved to Prairie du Chien where he began working at the Piggly Wiggly. David married Karen Lucey on April 19, 1968, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Together, they raised their family in Prairie du Chien, enjoyed traveling, and visiting with their extended family. David later worked for the 3M Company in Prairie du Chien for over 30 years until retirement. He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and shared his fandom with his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Karen; their son Michael (Jamie) Nelson; his 2 grandchildren Kennedy and Reagan; the Bedward, Vance, Lucey, Dawson, and Stoehr families; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Carolyn Sampson, Alice Oxley, Charles, and Nora Jean Nelson.

A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Friday, October 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with inurnment in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the Mass.
