Donald P. Cooley age 77 of Bagley passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018 at his home on the farm in Bagley with his loving wife Carol by his side.  He was born on July 23, 1940 in Lancaster, WI to Allen and Helen (Meier) Cooley, the second oldest of four children.  Don grew up milking cows on the family farm and working at the Hazelton Cheese factory.  He enlisted in the Army and served in the National Guard for 6 years.  In 1962, he married Marcia Moore and had 2 daughters, Angela and Christine.  Marcia tragically died in a fire in 1973.  Then, in 1978 Donald married Carol Achenbach and together they had a son Stuart and he became a father to John and Alan Achenbach.  Don’s passion was farming; working up the fields, taking care of fine featured cattle and enjoying well bred horses.  He greatly enjoyed country western singers and was proud to have met several legends including Johnny Cash and Roy Rodgers to name a few.  He was never without a good can of Copenhagen by his side. In later years, Don thoroughly enjoyed visits from his grandchildren.  He is survived by his wife Carol, his children, Angela (Ahmed) Tawil of Round Rock, TX, Christine (Dan) Luedtke of Prairie du Chien, WI, John (Janelle) Achenbach of Lyle, MN, Alan (Heather) Achenbach of Salt Lake City, UT, and Stuart (Deanna) Cooley of Prairie du Chien, 11 grandchildren (with one on the way), 2 great grandchildren, his brothers, Norman (Rosie) Klein, Darrell (RaeAnn) Cooley and Wayne (Mary) Cooley as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Don was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Marcia.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 13, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Patch Grove, WI, Rev. John Meinholz officiating, with burial in the Prairie du Chien Evergreen Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.  Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 AM until the time of services.  The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.  www.garrityfuneralhome.com
