Fay Christian Schnitzler age 80, of Bagley, WI, passed away at home on July 21, 2023, surrounded by his family at his side. He was born September 22, 1942, on the Charlie Daggert farm in Chadwick, IL. Fay was the son of Christian and Retha (Cathman) Schnitzler. He lived the first 5 years of his life in Illinois. His parents bought a farm near Bagley, close to his maternal grandparents William and Bridie (Bohringer) Cathman. Fay was educated in one room schoolhouses: The Key and Brodtville schools near Bagley. He attended high school in Bagley while farming with his parents. He met the love of his life Raleen McCartney, and they married on January 23, 1971, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley. To this union, four sons were born and raised on the same farm as Fay. Family and friends were most important to Fay. He enjoyed a good joke or conversation about farming or tractors. Fay loved to sing The Ballad of Jed Clampett. He was proud of the accomplishments of his sons and his grandchildren. Most of all, he was a proud grandpa of 9 girls and 3 boys. Fay was a lifelong member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he served as a council member for numerous years.
Fay is survived by his wife of 52 years, Raleen Schnitzler, four sons: Fay (Tinker) Schnitzler and former daughter-in-law Marjory, John (Lynette Eberling), Jed (Amanda), and Tom (Jessica Kann), grandchildren: Katelyn, Clara, Breanna, Zach, Victoria, Kayli, Alyesia, and Ashton Schnitzler, Annaka and Aliyah Mcarthur, Keegan Eberling, and Cayden Koehn, sister LaVonne Clanton, brother Lindy (Linda) Schnitzler, brothers-in-law: Harry and Vernon (Tammy) McCartney, sisters-in-law: Laurayne (Lonny) Fischer, Jolinda (Bob) Waterman, Norma (Kevin) Weideman, Ruth (David) Nuebert, and Susan McCartney, and numerous nieces and nephews. Fay was preceded in death by his parents, sister, and brother-in-law: June and Ron Sutton, brother-in-law: Gary Clanton, sister-in-law: Susan (Huser) McCartney, Raleens parents: Vernon and Leona McCartney, his grandparents: Jacob and Barbara (Wurster) Schnitzler and William and Birdie (Bohringer) Cathman.
Funeral Services will be Friday July 28, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley, WI, with Pastor Pam Strakeljahn officiating, burial in Blakes Prairie Cemetery, Bloomington, WI. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI, Thursday July 27, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service.
