Glenn R. “Gus” Gustke, age 92 of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Arlington Heights, IL passed away Monday, December 25, 2023, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. He was born in Chicago, IL on April 27, 1931, the son of Irving and Birdie (Olsen) Gustke. Growing up in Elmwood Park, IL, he attended Proviso High School. He later enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Supply Sergeant in Germany during the Korean War. Glenn married Barbara Mellenkamp on May 5, 1951, in Park Ridge, IL. Together, they raised 3 daughters in Arlington Heights, IL. He worked for FM Global, formerly known as Protection Mutual, as an account executive for many years until retirement. Gus enjoyed visiting their home on Lake Geneva in Southeast Wisconsin, fishing and spending time on his boat which was affectionately named “Gus’ Girls”, after his 3 daughters. He also enjoyed hunting and golfing. He is survived by his wife of 72 years Barbara; 2 daughters Kathleen Pettit and Linda (Calvin) Zimmerman; grandchildren Michael (Amanda) and Jason (Megan) Pettit, Kyle and Todd (Maria) Zimmerman, Sally (Brad) Orlando, Dyan (Deltrick) Dagon, and Kurt Cooper; great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Mikey, Savannah, and Isabelle Pettit, Logan Orlando, and Kash Dagon. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Marie Cooper.
According to Glenn’s wishes, there will be no formal funeral services at this time. Private inurnment with be held at a later date in the Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge, IL.
