Obituary

Glenn M. Horkheimer, age 85 of Bloomington, WI passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 3, 2023, with his family by his side. Glenn was born March 14, 1938, the oldest of 3 children born to Michael and Stella (Lyness) Horkheimer. Glenn grew up on a farm outside of Bloomington where he attended grade school and graduated high school with the class of 1956. He then joined the U.S. Army, actively serving for a year before joining the Army Reserves. He was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1968. During his military journeys, he married Charlene Mae Scarff on April 8, 1961, at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. Together, they raised 3 children and a nephew on a farm near Bloomington. In 1995, they sold the farm and moved to Prairie du Chien. Glenn held a variety of jobs throughout his life, the most memorable being John Deere Tractor Works in Dubuque, IA from 1959 to 1986. He started in the foundry and retired as a supervisor. After retirement, he went on to achieve his master’s degree in Supervisory Management from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He taught at Southwest Technical College in Fennimore, WI for 8 years. Glenn also worked for Walmart in Prairie du Chien and was a tour guide for Tri-State Tours in Galena, IL. He was especially proud of being a member of the West Grant Lions Club and the American Legion Post in Bloomington. After all of Glenn’s adventures, he just enjoyed reading war stories and watching the Green Bay Packers. Glenn is survived by his children Michael (Debra) Horkheimer of Baraboo, WI, Susan (Donald) Sime, and Nancy (Scott) Emery both of Wauzeka, WI; 1 brother John (Connie) Horkheimer of Bloomington, WI and 1 sister Roseann (Iola) Horkheimer; 4 grandchildren Michael (Meggan) Feran, James (Kristen Hanson) Emery both of Prairie du Chien, Pamela (Robert) Hansen of Lewiston, MN, and Joshua (Hannah Cornell) Emery of Boscobel, WI; 8 great-grandchildren Ayden, Abigail, Emily, Alexis, Ethan, Everett, Tyler, and Griffin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
