James “Jim” Hendricks, 76, formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Tuesday, January 16, 2024. He was born December 1, 1947, to George and Christina (Kelly) Hendricks. He spent much of his early life with his beloved grandmother Mary and uncle Doty on their farm in rural Prairie du Chien. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and after basic training, he went to Hospital Corps School for medical training in the Army. He then went for field med tech training with the Marine Corps in North Carolina. He was stationed in Quang Tri Province of Vietnam and served as a corpsman with the Marines and local civilians at the hospital. He attended college at UW-Stevens Point and UW-Lacrosse. He was a lifelong resident of Prairie du Chien and worked at the 3M company for 37 years, from which he retired in 2009. He was a lifelong fan of the Green Bay Packers, and an avid outdoorsman who greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, turtle trapping and gardening. He was quick-witted, clever, filled to the brim with knowledge, and always had a joke or story to tell (often telling Savannah her favorite of “The Chicken Heart That Ate Eastman”- A Jim Hendricks Original). His daughter Savannah was born in 1983. Jim made friends everywhere he went and never met a stranger. He travelled across the U.S. and Canada to hunt and fish with friends. He enjoyed fixing computers and helping friends with computer problems at home. He is survived by his wife of over 17 years Maureen Hendricks, his daughter Savannah (Mike) Brooks, half-brother Al (Pam) Hendrick, niece Christina (Paul) Morovits, sister-in-law Vicky (George) Hendricks, and maternal cousins Darlene and Cathie. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Mary Hendricks, parents Christina and George Sr., Uncle Joseph “Doty” Hendricks, sisters Mary Lou (Hendricks) Manning and Patricia Hendricks, twin brother George.
