Jeanne (Hunt) Miller Christensen

Jeanne Miller Christensen passed away suddenly on August 19, 2021 in Prairie du Chien, WI. She was born Jeanne Hunt on July 6, 1934 to Francis Hunt and Doris Maxine (Smith) Hunt in Des Moines, IA.

Jeanne married Arthur Dale Miller (deceased) of Altona, IL on February 29, 1952.  They had three children from their marriage.  Shelley (Ken) Garnett of Peoria, IL; Suzan (Timothy) Dill of Prairie du Chien, WI; and Scott (Linda) Miller of Peoria, IL.

Jeanne married Milton K. Christensen of Royal, IA on July 16, 1980, who preceded her in death on July 22, 2009.  She was also preceded in death by both parents and by two brothers and two sisters:  Richard Hunt of Virginia, David Lee Hunt of Peoria, IL, Sharon Kay Walker of Bartonville, IL and Diana Lynn Sparks of Chillicothe, IL.  She was also preceded in death by one very beloved grandson, Benjamin Dill (age 13).

Jeanne is survived by one sister, Donna Mae Ashline of Valparaiso, Indiana.

Additionally, Jeanne was grandmother to eleven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren. 

Jeanne’s primary focus was on raising her children.  Though she enjoyed a variety of jobs over the years, she was especially proud of the work she did as Secretary to the Superintendent for School District 62 in Peoria, IL from 1975 through June 1980.   

Jeanne was an avid reader and accomplished artist/painter.  She had a green thumb and was always surrounded by beautiful plants. Skilled at both knitting and crocheting, winning many ribbons at the County Fair for her blankets, sweaters and beautiful baby layettes.  She was also a fantastic cook, and meals at her house were always something to look forward to. 

Jeanne’s family would like to thank the staff of Bluff Haven who cared for Mom, with many becoming surrogate family to her during the pandemic quarantine when family members were unable to visit in person. 

A private Memorial Service is being planned by the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the worldwide work at JW.org/donate. The family is being assisted by Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, WI.  Please share your memories and thoughts of Jeanne on their website.
