John Brunet, age 80 passed on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He was born in Madison, WI, to Edmund and Violet (Small) Brunet but raised in Prairie du Chien and graduated from Prairie High in 1964. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1964 to 1968, including a tour at Cam Rahn Bay in Vietnam. After that, he attended UW-La Crosse for two years and then Blackhawk Technical College, specializing in aircraft maintenance. He was an FAA certified airframe and powerplant mechanic for many years and held other FAA certification including A&P mechanic inspector license, and private pilot and gliding licenses. He worked in private aviation for many years until he returned to Prairie du Chien around 1990. He then worked at Lock and Dam 9 as a Lock and Dam operator. He is survived by his sister Mary McKinney of Rockford, IL, brother Patrick of La Crosse, WI, and sister-in-law Carol Brunet of Monona, WI; and nephews and nieces (including great and great-great) ones. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Michael and brother-in-law Kenneth Mckinney.
According to John’s wishes, no formal funeral services are planned at this time.
