John C. Luster

John C. Luster, (“JOHN THE BARBER”), age 82 of Prairie du Chien, WI., passed away Thursday, October 28, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Harper’s Ferry, IA on November 12, 1938, the son of John O. and Loella (Schellsmidt) Luster, he was the seventh child of eleven. After graduating high school, he entered the U.S. Navy and served for four years. He then attended Barber College in Davenport, IA and barbered for 45 years in McGregor, IA. In 1964, he married Joyce McFarland at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. Four children were born to this union: Joan (Paul) Bowar, John (Heather) Luster of Prairie du Chien, Diane (Rick) Morovits of Smithville, MO and Tammy (Dave) Bartholomew of Costa Mesa, CA. He is survived by eight grandchildren: Tim, Nolan, and Claire Bowar, Connor (Nikki) and Erin Morovits, John Jr., Mitchell and Brady Luster; one great-grandchild Addy Morovits; 2 brothers Clarence (Kay) and Charles (Rita); 3 sisters Madonna (Jim) Rouiller, Helen (Dick) Hanesworth, and Charlotte (Glen) Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special family member, Benny Bratland. His sister’s: Mary (Neal)Kane, Myrtle (Don) Spinner, and brother’s: Ernie (Alice) Luster, James (Virginia) Luster and Harland (Connie) Luster. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held according to CDC guidelines on Monday, November 1, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Harpers Ferry, IA. Military Honors will be accorded graveside by the Harper’s Ferry Legion Post 722. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Sunday, October 31, 2021 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
