Judith (Judy) Anne Remaly Unertl, age 83 of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in LaCrosse, WI. She was born in Wausau, WI on January 27, 1940, the daughter of Theodore (Ted) and Katherine (Katy) (Torpy) Ziegler. She grew up in Grafton, WI living with her aunt and uncle Bob and Isabelle Drew while her Father Ted served in the German and Pacific Theaters during World War II.  After the war she and her mother Katy moved to be with her father in Germany, and then eventually moving to Prairie du Chien, and then a final tour in Hawaii as a child of a military family.  Judy was a proud graduate of the Class of 1959 from St Mary's High School in Prairie du Chien and then attended the University of Marquette and Layton School of Art and Design in Milwaukee WI.  She eventually moved back to Prairie du Chien where she married Earl Remaly on February 19, 1966.  Earl later preceded her in death.  Judy as she was known by all of her friends and family, became a prominent beautician and businesswoman in Prairie du Chien. She also taught cosmetology and was the Educational Director for the Scot Lewis Cosmetology School in LaCrosse,WI.  After a successful career as an educator she became one of the top cosmetology examiners for the state of Wisconsin.  Judy later married Charles Unertl in 2001. He also preceded her in death. She was crafty, artistic, and loved to draw and teach crafts to those that wanted to learn. After retirement, she enjoyed traveling in her motorhome to her second home in Goodyear, AZ. She was the President and Secretary of the Wisconsin Voyagers, spent over 50 years in the Eastern Star, and led both Boy and Girl Scout troops. She is survived by her children Sharon (Dr. Ann Mertens) Remaly, Steward (Wendy Goodman), Remaly, and Donald (Don) Remaly; and her grandchildren Katelyn (John) Curry and Jacob (Marlee Jackson) Remaly. She was preceded in death by her parents.
