Larry F. “Butch” Stark, age 77 of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, at home surrounded by his family following a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Prairie du Chien on November 2, 1944, the son of Frank and Blanche (Strnad) Stark. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1962 before serving in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. After his service, he returned to Prairie du Chien to work at Stark’s Sports Shop before moving to Manderson, WY where he worked and owned stock in Cowboy Timber Treating Company. He then returned, back to Prairie du Chien where he started his own business, Larry Stark Homes. He owned and operated his business until retirement in 2007. Larry enjoyed elk hunting in his early years, riding his Harley, traveling, and taking drives with his son Kent’s two dogs. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan, proud Republican, and loved music, especially Frank Sinatra. He is survived by his two sons Kent and Jaydee; his partner Bunny Stark; his siblings Paul (Sue) Stark, Joann Valley, and Blanche “Bunnie” Bily; his half-brothers Dan (Jess) and Greg (Terri) Stark and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard “Dick” Stark and sister Mary Stark.
A Memorial Service will be Monday, March 7, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with inurnment in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Military honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Rivers and Bluffs Animal Shelter in Prairie du Chien.
