Leroy Wood Obituary

Prairie du Chien, WI / Olin, IA   

Leroy F. Wood age 79 of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Olin, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born September 22, 1939 in Olin, the son of Emery and Hazel Wood.  Leroy served in the US Navy during the Viet Nam War as a ship’s engineer.  He later worked as an engineer for the Iowa State Penitentiary at Anamosa, retiring after 28 years.  Leroy was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.  He is survived by his children, Davina (Ken) Matthews and Dana Reed both of Prairie du Chien, Dorrene Smith of Lake City, MN, Danney (Angie) Harms of Olin and Donna (Kim) Gillilland of Prairie du Chien, son in law Paul Horsfall of Waukon, IA, daughter in law Kathy Harms of Tipton, IA, his brother Leonard (Nelia) Wood of Monticello, IA, sister in law Lonnie Wood of Mechanicsville, IA along with many loving grand and great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife Judy, his parents, his children, Dorothea Horsfall, Darrell Harms, a son in law Pete Smith, his siblings, Ruth Simmons, Marie, Harold and Arthur Wood.

   A memorial service, with military honors, will be Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the United Methodist Church in Olin, IA with Pastor Paul Wood officiating.  The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.  www.garrityfuneralhome.com
