Loren P. Vondrum, age 88 of Beaver Dam, WI formerly of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Hillside Manor in Beaver Dam. He was born in Cassville, WI on February 9, 1935, the son of Harold and Rose (Kirschbaum) Vondrum. Loren was raised in Glen Haven, WI and graduated from Bloomington High School with the class of 1953. He worked for Pride Seed Co. before joining the U.S. Army in 1955. After two years of military service, he returned home to work on the farm and resumed working for Pride Seed Co. Loren married Linda Ley on May 28, 1960, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Together, they raised 4 children on the family farm in Glen Haven, where Loren also raised seed corn. Loren was active in the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society. After moving to Prairie du Chien, he worked as general manager of the Bridgeport Inn Hotel in Bridgeport for many years until retirement. Loren’s wife Linda preceded him in death on September 20, 2000. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time on the Mississippi River. Loren’s faith was very important to him, and he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He later married Cathryn (Bouska) Webster in November of 2003. She also preceded him in death on December 17, 2014. Loren is survived by his children Laurie (Steve) Krebsbach, Sandy (Fred) Fishnick, Tom (Gina), and Dan (Kathy) Vondrum; sisters Patsy (Roger) Prew and Joan Draka; stepson Michael (Jennifer) Webster; sister-in-law Leta Willman, brothers-in-law Jim and Joe (Judy) Ley; stepson-in-law David (Ann) Boylen; 16 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter RoseMarie Vondrum, stepmother Marcella Vondrum, and stepdaughter Nancy Boylen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 30, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating, with burial in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Cassville, WI. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Sunday, October 29, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., where there will be a rosary at 3:30 P.M. Friends may also call at the funeral home on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of departure for church. Military honors will be accorded immediately following the Mass by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery in Cassville, WI, Hillside Hospice in Beaver Dam, WI or the American Diabetes Association.
