Lorna M. Porvaznik, age 74 of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at home surrounded by her family. She was born in Duluth, MN on January 22, 1948, the daughter of Guy and Dorothy (Sass) McLaughlin. She grew up in Cannon Falls, MN before moving to Winona, MN where she graduated from Winona Senior High School. She then attended Rochester Junior College for a year. Lorna met Paul Porvaznik in Winona and they were later married on June 6, 1969, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in Winona. Together they moved to Wauzeka, WI, living there briefly before moving to Prairie du Chien, where they would raise their family. Lorna provided childcare out of her home before working at Anthony’s Clothing Store as an office assistant. She then worked as a teacher’s aide at B.A. Kennedy Elementary School for many years. Lorna loved caring for, and working with children, and dedicated her career to doing just that. She also enjoyed playing cards, board games, creating photo albums, spending time with her grandchildren, and celebrating the Christmas season. She had a sweet tooth and made sure there were always treats nearby. Lorna was a leukemia and breast cancer survivor, demonstrating strength, faith, resilience, and a positive outlook. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Paul; their children Krista (Jay Peterson) Porvaznik and Aaron (Cindy Brenes Fernández) Porvaznik; her grandchildren Jacob and Zachary Peterson and Leah Porvaznik Brenes; her brother Scott (Kathy) McLaughlin; and her niece Katie Friddle and nephew Conner McLaughlin. She was preceded in death by her parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. with a Eulogy at 10:45 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with private inurnment at a later date. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. for a Visitation, where there will be a wake scripture at 7:00 P.M. There is an additional Visitation at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of departure for church.
