Lucy Pauline (Bohr) Schissel died peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, July 19, 2023. She was born on January 3, 1940, in Decorah, Iowa to John and Anna (Heying) Bohr. She was the 7 of 13 children. Lucy graduated from De Sales High School in Ossian, Iowa and married Lee Anthony (Tony) Schissel on June 18, 1959. Together, they had five children. Lucy and Tony raised their children in New Hampton, Iowa. She also worked at Sara Lee Bakery in New Hampton. After its closure, Lucy worked for VGM Group until her retirement in 2010. Lucy and Tony moved to Guttenberg in 2013. Tony passed away on December 13, 2020. She remained close with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She spoke often and lovingly of her family, and they were the focus of her life.
Lucy is survived by her children: son Loras Schissel, daughter Barb (Brad) Anderson, son Greg (Ann) Schissel, Janice (Gary) Tank, and Ann (Jason Husby) Schissel; grandchildren: Abbie (Jordan) McGowan and Ben Anderson; Brice (Deb) Schissel and great-grandchildren: Harper and Hudson; Brandon (Valerie Rinken) Schissel; Justin Crowe, Sr., Chelsea (Isaiah) Ratliff, Jordan Crowe, Justin Crowe; Matt (Melissa Evanson) Tank, Hailey Thomas and Kallie Thomas; Alanna Tank and great-grand-children McKenzie Wegner, Madison Wegner, Jayden Cameron; Nick Tank and great-grandchild Delaney Tank; Nathan (Lindsay) Tank and great-grandchildren Abby and Rylee; Blake (Taarna Louise Johnson) Wiltse and great-grandchild Lexi; and Samantha Tank.
She is also survived by her sister Janet Bohr, brothers Luke Bohr and LeRoy (Shirley) Bohr; sisters-in-law Sheila Bohr, Marilyn Bohr, Annette Wiltgen, and Betty Weilacker; and brother-in-law Lester (Shirley) Hageman as well as many nieces and nephews.
Lucy is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Luella, Clarita, Sister Norma Jean, and Lois; brothers Mark, Carl, Kenny, Art, and Johnny; sisters-in-law Francis, Janice, Lorrena, and Kathy.
A Memorial Mass of Resurrection will be Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 10:30 AM at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, WI where friends may call from 9:30 AM until the time of the Mass.
