Mary V. Chunat, age 91 of Wauzeka, WI passed away Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien. She was born August 30, 1932, to Louis and Caroline (Harvat) Wagner. Mary grew up in Wauzeka and graduated from Wauzeka High School with the class of 1950. She married Lyle Chunat on August 30, 1950, and together they farmed and raised their 3 daughters. Mary worked at McGregor Electric in McGregor, IA and Prairie Tool and Die in Prairie du Chien. She later worked for Advanced Transformer in Boscobel before becoming a librarian aid for Bluffview Intermediate School in Prairie du Chien. She enjoyed flowers, crafting, and fishing. She loved chickens, her dog Tuff, and parakeets Lyle and Mary. Mary’s husband Lyle preceded her in death on May 28, 1997. She is survived by 2 daughters Geri (Mike) Gillitzer, and Joanne (Paul) Peloch; 1 sister Lois Duha; son-in-law Larry Hurda; 8 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Judy Hurda; 2 sisters Mildred Fredenburg and Anna Quick; and grandson John Peloch.
Funeral Services will be held privately with burial in the Wauzeka Cemetery in Wauzeka, WI. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. at Century Hall in Wauzeka.
