Mavis Elizabeth (Check) Godden

Mavis E. Godden, age 92 of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2021, at Crossing Rivers Health. She was born in Eastman, WI on February 26, 1929, the daughter of Albert and Elizabeth (Butler) Check. She attended Prairie du Chien High School where she graduated in the class of 1947. She married Warren Godden on January 24, 1954. Warren later preceded her in death on November 11, 1998. Mavis worked at the Laundry Basket in Commerce Court Mall in Prairie du Chien for many years. She was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. She loved to garden and spend time outdoors. She is survived by her children Timothy (Nancy) Godden, Elizabeth (Robert) Shefelbine, Cheryl (Jeff) Anderson, and Ronald Godden; brothers Dale (Bev) and Roger Check; sister-in-law Lorraine Richter; grandchildren Sarah, Laura, Michael, Josh, Matthew, Adrianna, and Benton; 2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Francis and Dennis Check; and sisters-in-law Joan and Lila Check.

A Memorial Service will be Thursday, December 16, 2021, at 1:00 P.M. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Humane Society or the Couleecap Food Pantry in Prairie du Chien.
