Patricia “Pat” M. Mezera, age 90 of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. She was born in La Crosse, WI on December 25, 1932, the daughter of Rhodell and Hazel (O’Connell) Klema. Pat grew up in Wauzeka and graduated from Wauzeka High School with the class of 1951. She attended technical school in La Crosse, where she worked briefly before moving to Prairie du Chien. Pat married Chad Mezera on April 12, 1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wauzeka. Together, they raised their 5 children on Frenchtown Road in Prairie du Chien. Pat was an active member of St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, often helping with the Fall Bazaar and Parish Council of Catholic Women. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, teaching them how to bake cookies and pies. She also enjoyed gardening and tending to her flowers. She is survived by her daughter Mary Mezera and sons Michael Chad (Christina), David (Kathy), Ronald (Holly), and Terry (Shawny) Mezera; sisters Rita (Bill) Hamann and Marjorie “Margy” (Edmund Weninger) Harpold; grandchildren Douglas, Michelle, Amanda, William, Elliot, Megan, and Alex; great-grandchildren Logan, Charlotte, Nora, Eloise, and Elizabeth, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Chad, her parents, Hazel and Rhodell and siblings Michael Klema and Anita Lechnir.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, July 24, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the Garrity Funeral Home on Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. and on Monday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of departure for church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien.
