Robert P. Garrity age 75 a lifelong resident of Prairie du Chien Wisconsin died Friday March 28, 1997 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was born December 3, 1921 in Prairie du Chien son of William and Elizabeth (Cull) Garrity. He attended Campion Jesuit High School and graduated from the University of Minnesota in mortuary science. He married Marion Fournier on August 24, 1942 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He served in the U.S. Army during WW ll in the European and African theaters. He received his funeral directors license in 1942 and began his funeral practice in Prairie du Chien in 1946. He and his wife owned and operated the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien for over 50 years. Bob served on the city police and fire commission for 25 years. He initiated the development for the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. He was a member of the fourth degree Knights of Columbus and an active member of the Eagles Club Aerie 1502. Bob was proud of his Irish heritage, most of his family, and Prairie du Chien.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marion Garrity of Prairie du Chien, five sons, Timothy (Mary Kay) of Milwaukee, WI, Daniel (Karen) of Bloomington, MN, Kevin (Judy) of Monument, CO, Michael (Wendy) of Prairie du Chien and Brendan (Lisa) of Easthampton, NJ, five daughters, Peggy Garrity of Santa Monica, CA, Bridget (Lee) Hettinger of Arlington Heights, IL, Sheila (Jim) Gokey of LaCrosse, WI, Maura (John) Wehrenberg, and Kathleen Garrity both of Prairie du Chien, a brother Mike, 30 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 1, 1997 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien, Rev. John Wambach S.J. officiating, with entombment in the St. Francis of Assisi Mausoleum of the Catholic Cemetery in LaCrosse, WI. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call after 4:00 PM on Monday, March 31, 1997 at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien where there will be an honor guard vigil by the Fr. Mazzuchelli Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, a Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:00 PM and a wake scripture at 7:30 PM.
