Robert John Konichek

Robert J. Konichek, age 89 of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Freeport, IL, passed away Thursday, January 13, 2022, at his home surrounded by family and friends. He was born in Prairie du Chien on February 4, 1932, the son of Henry and Grace (McCartney) Konichek. He graduated from Prairie du Chien High School before serving in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He then met the love of his life LoRayne Burton, and they were married in Cassville, WI on December 9, 1954. He worked as a Telegrapher on the railroad with Burlington Northern before serving as a fireman in Freeport, IL for over 30 years until retirement. Robert and LoRayne moved back to Prairie du Chien where LoRayne preceded him in death on March 26, 2007. He is survived by his children Robin (Steve) Scovel, and Bryan (Jodee) Konichek; his grandchildren Nathan (Candiss) Scovel, Leah (Tom) English, Breanne and Jordan Konichek, and Noel (Ed) Snow; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Blaine (Linda), and his brothers Bill, Rick and Mike Konichek.   

A Memorial Service will be Thursday, January 20, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services. Military Honors will be accorded graveside by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard.
