William Rodenkirch Obituary

William “Bill” J. Rodenkirch age 81, of Prairie du Chien, WI passed away on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien due to a short illness with lung cancer.  Bill was born November 5, 1938 to Paul and Eunice (Pohle) Rodenkirch at the Beaumont Hospital in Prairie du Chien.  He attended Campion Jesuit High and Prairie du Chien High School.  Bill served in the US Navy in Japan and Guam.  He married Sandra Trentin on July 8, 1961 at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien.

Bill was employed at Dillman Sand and Gravel, Paul Mara Construction, Prairie Beer Distributors, and the Villa Louis.  He played softball with Bob Kuckenbecker’s team for 20 years, golfed with Carroll Paulson, Ray Kittle, Tom Rink, and Walt Slaget and let’s not forget the 5 AM coffee group every weekday at the old Coaches Drive Inn.  Bill was a member of the Prairie du Chien Fire Department from 1971 through 1994 in many positions and as assistant fire chief.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Sandra; children Tina (John) Osterhaus and Bill (Deanna) Rodenkirch; grandchildren Joshua Osterhaus, Jennifer (Justin) Peak, Andrew (Megan) Osterhaus; great- grandchildren Amelia and Finnley Osterhaus, Layla and Paxton Peak, Ethan and Ella Osterhaus; step grandchildren  Steffanie (Brian) Kohn, Stacia (Tim) Stephenson, Vanessa (Charles) Beckman, and Weston Nemitz; and step great grandchildren Madison Devlin, Everly Stephenson, Olivia Beckman, and many nieces and nephews.  He is also survived by a sister, Virginia (Sis) Lochner, brothers-in-law, Jerry Pat Trentin, Tony (Chris) Trentin, and Jim (Cheryl) Trentin.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son John, sister Ruthann Therring, father and mother in law Jerry and Helen Trentin, brothers in law Bruce Trentin, Jerry Fernette, and Michael Lochner. 

According to Bill’s wishes there will be no formal funeral services at this time. The Family would like to thank the staff at Crossing Rivers Hospice for the wonderful care given Bill and his family during his time at Crossing Rivers Health.
