Our loving mother and grandma, Joannie Carol Sheckler age 83 of Prairie du Chien passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at the Prairie Maison Care Center.  She was born October 25, 1933 in the old Fourth Ward of Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Joseph and Esther (Tippery) Pitzer.  She married Russell “Dick” Sheckler on December 13, 1952.  He preceded her in death on January 12, 1999.  Joannie always managed to work full time and raise her family.  She loved to fish with her sisters and enjoyed music and dancing.  She spent many happy hours tending to her large yard.  She is survived by her children, Sandra (Bill) Herreid, DeAnn (Todd) McWilliams, Rich Sheckler and Lisa (Mark) Mara all of Prairie du Chien, her brothers, Leonard (Mickey) Pitzer of Youngstown, OH and Jim (Yvonne) Pitzer of Fitchburg, WI, her sisters Faye (Frank) Tesar of Prairie du Chien and Helen Wilterdink of West Bend, WI, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Terry, a brother Joseph Pitzer, sisters, Charlotte Mae Pitzer and Esther Biederman, brothers in law Robert and Ted Sheckler and Dick Wilterdink along with a sister in law Betty Sheckler.

A private family memorial service will be Friday, January 6, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barb Cook officiating with interment in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien, WI.  In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Walter Schmidt Home, 424 N. Beaumont Rd., Prairie du Chien, WI 53821.
