Prairie du Chien, Wis.

 Lois E. Noel, 95, passed away November 16, 2016, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor Iowa. She was born in Retreat WI on June 15,1921 to Franklin and Florence (Tower) Ames. She married Carl Noel in 1944 and of that marriage had six children, Richard (Cindy) Noel of Prairie du Chien, Sheila (Mike) Conway of Princeton, IL., Janice (Dwayne) Koecke of Prairie du Chien, Kate (John) Mezera of Joliet III., Robert Noel of Prairie du Chien, and Bridgitt (Ken Pangbum) Noel of Apple Valley, Minn. Lois loved the outdoors and spent much time fishing and gardening. She was a fantastic cook and no occasion was complete without her homemade food. She loved animals and nature and taught her children to appreciate them as well. She grew up on Lawrence Ridge and enjoyed telling stories about her childhood there with her many siblings, friends and other colorful characters. Listeners could almost smell the woodsmoke of the one room schoolhouse, or hear the chirping of crickets on a warm summer night as she recounted the trials and adventures that reflected life on a farm in the 1920/30s.

When the silver moon shines out so clear,
On the corn fields of the old home place,
Let us think of those we have loved so dear
The friends whom we cannot replace.

She is survived by her children and six grandchildren, Dwayne (Tracey) Koecke, Stacey Noel, Sarah (Greg) Gorres, Angela Noel, Nick Mezera and Robert Noel; two great-grandchildren; Brennan Koecke and Eli Noel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Carl and many brothers and sisters .. Lois was a hard worker and a good mother, wife, sister and grandmother. She was much loved and will be missed.
